Jerrod Niemann's New Single "Lover, Lover"

A few weeks ago my roommate came home and told me about a new country song that she absolutely love and she introduced me to one of my new favorite country songs "Lover, Lover" by Jerrod Niemann. Jerrod Neimann has been releasing songs since 2006 but this was his first top 10 single. Not only does Jerrod Neimann sing he also writes songs for very famous country artist like Jamey Johnson, Neal McCoy, Julie Roberts and wrote Garth Brooks hit single "Good Ride Cowboy." Jerrod Niemann has such a great voice and this song has such a good rhythm and fun lyrics to sing along with I am not surprised at all that it is a top 10 hit. If you haven't heard it yet I highly suggest taking a few minutes to listen to it because I am sure you will love it too!

"Lover, Lover"
Well the truth, well it hurts to say
I'm gonna pack up my bags and I'm gonna go away
I'm gonna split, I can't stand it
I'm gonna give it up and quit and aint never coming back

Girl but before I get to going, I've got to say,
I know you used to love me but that was yesterday,
And the truth, I won't fight it,
When the love starts burning you got to do what's right.

Woh-oh lover, lover lover, you don't treat me no good no more,
Woh-oh lover, lover lover, you don't treat me no good no more,

Well the truth, yeah it hurts to say,
I'm gonna pack up my bags and I'm gonna go away,
I'm gonna split, I can't stand it,
I'm gonna give it up and quit, ain't never coming back

Girl but before I get to going, I've got to say,
There was a time, oh woman, when you used to shake it for me,
but now, all you do is just treat me cold,
Ain't gonna take it no more, gonna walk out the door,

Lover, lover lover, you don't treat me no good no more,
No good no more more more more
Lover, lover lover you don't treat me good no more,
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Well I'd wait up for you almost every night
and I'm hurting so bad cause you don't treat me right
Oh woman, oh woman you know I love you so
but you're so mean to me baby, I'm walking out the door,
Oh lover, oh lover, yeah-yeah

No good no more more more more

I know you used to love me in every way
but now im giving it up, and I'm tired of crying babe
I can't stand it no longer, it hurts me to say,
but I'm packing up my bags and going far away,
Hey lover, oh lover yeah-yeah

Lover, lover lover, you dont treat me no good no more
Lover, lover lover, you dont treat me no good no more

This song has been stuck in my head lately. I took it as a sign it needed to be on the blog. So I hope you like "Keep Me In Mind" by the Zac Brown Band. Zac Brown Band is an American country music band based in Atlanta, Georgia. They have recorded four studio albums, and charted eight Number One singles on the Billboard country charts: "Chicken Fried", "Toes", "Highway 20 Ride", "Free", "As She's Walking Away", "Colder Weather", "Knee Deep" and "Keep Me In Mind", in addition to the single "Whatever It Is," which peaked at number 2 on the same chart. (Source)

After an eventful year on the charts and on the road, GRAMMY-Award winning Zac Brown Band has proven that “overnight success” can be years in the making. New fans drawn by the irresistible hit singles, the awe-inspiring musicianship and dynamic live shows might have thought the Zac Brown Band emerged from nowhere. In fact, the band has paid its dues for years and put in its time for just this moment. It may have happened quickly, but it’s definitely built to last. (Source)

And then I went crazy, and started making socks

To contact us Click HERE
I've had quite a bit more spare time than internet connection lately, so about two weeks ago I used a hot spot from Erik's phone to copy some crochet patterns to my computer so I'd have something to do when he took the Idiotnet away from me to go to work.  I've got a short attention span, as I've said many times before, so I wanted something that I could start, and finish, in one day.  Something which would not require a whole lot of brainpower.

This pattern turned out to be perfect: Super Simple Baby Socks.  These are little tube socks that are made flat and then sewn up.  Only really basic skills required.  The only trick is that they're made out of actual sock yarn, with a pretty small hook (3.5mm; in contrast I typically reach for a 5mm or 5.5mm).  So while they're simple, they still take a little while and are fairly tedious.

And yet, the finished object is just adorable:

In all honesty, if sock yarn didn't cost a ridiculous amount ($6 for about a 2 or 3 oz skein seems to be the standard around here), I would swallow the tedium and keep at it, because squee.  But these socks don't take up even close to an entire ball, and even adding in a hat (talk about tedium) doesn't use up a whole ball, and it's not like I want ten of the exact same sock.  So it doesn't seem like the ideal project unless you have excess sock yarn lying around.

What I do have an unconscionable amount of, however, is Simply Soft, which is a light worsted weight yarn.  Like I said before, these are little rectangles sewn into shape, so it's not hard to adapt the concept.

And so last week I spent a couple of hours making socks using a larger hook and heavier yarn:

If you're at all familiar with crochet, you can probably tell that both pairs were not made the same way.  The multicolored pair was indeed made out of flat rectangles, but the green pair was made, toe up, in an actual tube.  Because good God why was I adding several steps to fucking tube socks?

Because they're much cuter that way, turns out.

I'm not thrilled with the overall look of the heavier yarn/bigger hook combo, so Friday when out with my mother I bought some sport weight yarn and will try with a mid-size hook and yarn.  Fingering weight yarn seems to be virtually impossible to find these days outside of an actual yarn store.

I know, I know, this is pretty far off from my usual fare.  But Marie's feet were so big at birth that she did not fit in newborn or 0-3 mo. size socks (note to all L&D nurses: Do not exclaim "Ohmigod, look at how big her feet are!", no matter how big her feet are, because Mom will remember you forever after as a bunch of assholes), so I'm expecting to birth another Bigfoot in about six months.  Crap, five months.  Anyway, you can see why I'm just a wee bit obsessive--it would be nice to be sure I can put cute little handmade socks on this baby.

I know this is going to sound like blaming the victim, and for that I'm sorry

However, when this happens:

On a clear summer night in 2010, Robert Mendoza was driving with his family on U.S. 90 near Zarzamora Street when he noticed traffic in front of him slow down and move to either side of the highway.
It might be best to get your ass over too, instead of  sitting there.

Strangely enough, I speak from personal experience.  On 7 May, this happened (I'm being lazy & doing a cut-and-paste from Facebook):

So, because I was so tired, I left home about an hour before Erik got off work, figuring I would just sit in the parking lot & read and wait on him. Because it was early, I decided to take the long way around, going up O'Connor and then dropping down the access road to Thousand Oaks. I had just turned onto the access road when I saw a pair of headlights in the distance. Since this is a one-way road, this was obviously worrying, but I thought maybe I was seeing things and started eyeballing the curb wondering if I could hop it if need be (note to self: next time, DO IT). About 15 seconds later, a car goes flying by me at highway speeds. o_0

Bitterly cursing my lack of a cell phone, I decided to stop at the next sign of life & ask someone to call 911. As I was approaching the next intersection, I saw a cop flip on its lights and haul ass out of the Chevron toward the other access road. I pulled up to the building and flagged down a Borg ambulance supervisor and explained what had happened and asked him to call 911. He told me the cop was indeed going after the wrong-way driver; saying that the guy was running from the officer.

Thank God, as I told the man, that I was in the right lane, not the left. I prayed (in between mental rounds of "Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck") that he was caught before hitting someone.
As if that's not bad enough, something pretty similar happened Monday.  My mother-in-law and I were headed back to her hotel room, which is between Perrin-Beitel and Starcrest, and just before we turned in, someone drove past us going the wrong way up the access road.  At a normal rate of speed this time, and in the middle of the day.  So, an early drunk, or just an idiot?  I don't know.

If you're keeping score, that's two up close and personal interactions with wrong way drivers in a month.  About, oh, six week ago (maybe a bit more), Erik and I were driving on I-10 near Probandt and saw an alert on Transguide that said WRONG WAY DRIVER ON FREEWAY.  Again, this was during the day.  So we exited at the next opportunity--and were the only people to do so.

The newspaper article linked up there called wrong way crashes a "hidden problem."  I'm not sure how hidden they can be anymore.

It's plain we need to be aware of, and prepared for, wrong way drivers.  Half my lifetime ago, my driver's ed teacher told me that if we were driving on the Interstate late at night, keep to the right lane.  I'm not sure if his reasoning--that drunk drivers make a conscious decision to stick to the slow lane because they know they're impaired--was accurate, but the advice was good.  Even if you're not on the freeway, stay out of the left lane.  It seems that "drive on the right" is deeply-ingrained behavior even with the drunkest of people, so adhere to that yourself.  Know more than one way to get where you're going, and if it's a dangerous time of night (the second article says after midnight, though for what it's worth neither of my encounters met this guideline) make sure you're not on a route without shoulders or some other way for you to get the fuck over if need be.  Keep aware of your surroundings, and take a clue from other drivers.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but what?

THIS is how you do a "where I'm from song."  Note there's not one damn mention of a dirt road.

Edited to add: On that same note, I find this a far more palatable Christian song than the crap I've been hearing for the last decade or so:

Edit Number Two: I've been sitting here listening to Don Williams songs on YouTube since looking up the first one and finding the second. Did you know Williams recorded a version of "Louisiana Saturday Night"? There's probably a reason for that, but it was funny.

Really, now?

Was browsing Pinterest a short bit ago, and came across this:

Hmm.

There is this odd little New Age thing where white folks have the greatest respect for Native Americans (noble savages, of course).  They don't quite seem to get it, though.  And this postcard is emblematic of that problem.

Seriously, look at it.  Native American Symbols.  Because, of course, Native Americans are all one homogenous culture, right?  Well, Native Americans might be, but American Indians not so much.  A Cherokee and a Diné (probably known to you as Navajo) would not have very much in common when it comes to either culture or language.  The United States is pretty freaking huge, and the Internet wasn't exactly a thing three or four hundred years ago.

Honestly, I find the whole thing pretty offensive.  I'm not going to demand that the government force people to stop this sort of thing, but it's a sort of cultural ignorance that will really make me think less of a person.  I don't expect anyone to not say Navajo or realize that the Chippewa are really supposed to be called Ojibwe (or that Kiowa may well be the Sioux word for crazy, and at any rate isn't what the Ka'igwu traditionally call themselves (though I think they've given up on that)), but is not mashing together multiple cultures, languages, and religions really too much to ask?

Or is it okay since they mean well?  Cultural appropriation is hard work, people.  Can't really expect folks to do their homework.  By and large the same folks who think that all Native Americans are the same are the same ones who think that Hispanic is an appropriate term for another huge variety of cultures, and they'll be among the first to tell you they're the sensitive ones.

**A note here on language.  I've been using the term Native American just to be a sarcastic bitch.  It's actually not the preferred term.  It's just the politically correct one, bestowed of course by well-meaning whites.  While searching for a link to explain why American Indian is actually the preferred usage by and large, I came across this article, which actually has a paragraph that says pretty much what I just did:

In the end, the term you choose to use (as an Indian or non-Indian) is your own personal choice. Very few Indians that I know care either way. The recommended method is to refer to a person by their tribe, if that information is known. The reason is that the Native peoples of North America are incredibly diverse. It would be like referring both a Romanian and an Irishman as European. It's true that they are both from Europe but their people have very different histories, cultures, and languages. The same is true of Indians. The Cherokee are vastly different from the Lakota, the Dine, the Kiowa, and the Cree, but they are all labeled Native American. So whenever possible an Indian would prefer to be called a Cherokee or a Lakota or whichever tribe they belong to. This shows respect because not only are you sensitive to the fact that the terms Indian, American Indian, and Native American are an over simplification of a diverse ethnicity, but you also show that you listened when they told what tribe they belonged to.
***Also, this editorial cartoon I've seen on Facebook quite a bit recently--and others of its ilk--depends quite strongly on the Native Americans are Homogenous BS:

Of course, it also depends on a rather serious lack of understanding of American history--to wit, not every European settlement just came in and jacked land.  Quite a few of them procured agreements from the local tribes to live where they did.  And, of course, the tribes never fought amongst themselves for territory, right?  They all lived in peaceful harmony 'fore those Evil White Men came along.

What do I Need to Make Rap Beats???

by Jay Reed

If you are interested in making Rap Beats or Hip-Hop Music. You will need something to create and arrange the music. I will outline a few things that you will need in the beatmaking process. I will explain the differences between Hardware and Software and a few other things that will be needed.

To begin with you will be needing some sort of Program Whether that's Computer software or Hardware to make the beats. In my knowledge of more than 18 years with doing beats Personally i have tried both pieces Hardware and Software. I continue to use both these days.

So I want to converse somewhat concerning the Hardware aspect. By Hardware What i'm saying is physical Drum Devices, Samplers and Keyboards that you just touch and play with your hands. I initially started off using a DR-660 drum unit about 18 years back. This became my very first item of "real" recording studio equipment. Before this I had been just working with breakbeat records on turntables and recording on the house stereo. This drum machine had stock sounds that might be manipulated with side effects like reverb and flanger but you couldn't add sounds. You were able however record patterns and after that organize all those patterns into songs. I was able to be taught a good deal through the use of that drum machine and it also was beneficial to be capable of playing the pads to listen to and record the sounds.

Down the line I was able to get hold of a Roland XP-60 Work station as well as a Roland MV-8000 Sampler. Again this is actual hardware that you can play. The XP-60 had stock sounds but couldn't add sounds. However, the MV-8000 which is really a sampler/sequencer surely could increase sounds and sample. This genuinely opened the door for creative imagination having the ability to import new sounds and sample new stuff.

Second of all I want to talk a small amount about computer software utilized for producing beats. The initial software system that I had was Cakewalk, as well as Fruit Loops Studio last but not least Reason by Propellerhead. I had usually enjoyed the design and feel of Hardware till I began using software. In my estimation, the most important benefit of working with software is the purchase price. You can obtain computer software for just a 3 rd of the selling price you may spend on hardware. If you're PC savvy which much of the youthful era has become, it really is easier to trim, copy and paste while in the software. This was significantly less easy when utilizing Hardware.

Lastly you will need to have rhythm and some type of music ability. Although I had basic music composition classes while in High School, I am no way a musician or know how to play by reading notes. However, I do have the ability to keep rhythm with a beat metronome and I am able to play melodies along with beats. No matter if you choose Hardware of Software, you will need to be able to keep rhythm and play in key when you make your beats.

by Audrey C. Howell

In 1998 the united states of america Congress passed a resolution identifying Bristol, Tennessee, as the "Birthplace of County Music." This project traces the history of how Bristol came down to earn the title, beginning with the region's southern Appalachian colonists in the 1700s who brought together, in old-world ballads and songs, the music of their native Scottish Highlands. While protected by geography from outside influences through the 18th and early 19th centuries, the area's music began to evolve rapidly through the Civil War period when the region was opened by the railroads.

Touring vaudeville, minstrel and medicine-show troupes, as well as the railroad workers themselves, with a style of work songs reflecting their African heritage, brought rapid changes into the settlers' original music. The native fiddle of the English, Scotch, and Irish settlers was joined by the banjo of African origin. After WWI, the guitar, autoharp, and dulcimer were introduced into the mix.

Following Edison's invention of the phonograph in the early years of the century, a new recording industry experienced swift growth in the course of the 1920s. Ralph Peer began to realize there was an untapped market for rural mountain music, and he set about to discover and grow the area's musical talent. Musicians and singers originally traveled to Nyc to tape their music, however when remote recording became possible, Bristol became Peer's initial hub of operations in 1927 -- chosen on account of proximity of local musicians such as Ernest and Hattie Stoneman, the Johnson Brothers, and Henry Whitter.

Soon talent from other southern states, including West Virginia, Virginia (the Carter Family) and North Carolina (Jimmie Rodgers) was recorded by Peer. These early recording sessions, popularly known as Bristol Sessions, would mark the birth of country music. Their influence can be found in bluegrass of musicians just like Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, in the song-writing of Hank Williams and Woody Guthrie, in the guitar-playing of Roy Acuff and Chet Atkins, in the sound of Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan, and in the song-stylings of Hank Snow, Ernest Tubb, Merle Travis, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakum and Dolly Parton.

The report follows the expansion of popularity of country music in the course of the barn dance shows of the radio era and bluegrass festivals of the 60s and 70s. In the mid-1990s, the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance (BCMA) was founded in Bristol to call listening ears and support the musical traditions of the area.

The project is documented with a 22-page report on the Bristol Music Story, brief biographies of the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, the Stonemans, a log of recordings in the Bristol Sessions, 25 historic photographs with descriptions, along with a videotape titled Bristol - Birthplace of Country Music.

Taylor Swift won Artist of the Year at the 2011 American Music Awards last night. This is Taylor’s 10th career AMA and the second time she has won the Artist of the Year trophy. Taylor also won Favorite Country Album for Speak Now and Favorite Female Country Artist. Blake Shelton picked up the Favorite Male Country Artist award at the AMAs. Lady Antebellum won Favorite Country Band, Duo or Group. The Band Perry performed “If I Die Young,” and was nominated for the Sprint New Artist of the Year, but did not win.

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton have been pretty open when it comes to their relationship, however, the couple has stayed pretty quiet about how Blake popped the question. Miranda did divulge a few details last week on Chelsea Lately, though, revealing that it took place at their ranch and that she was wearing a camo jacket, which she joked, “tells you everything you need to know.” Also during the interview Miranda admitted she was so nervous about the release of her album, Four the Record, that she had fever blisters the week before it came out. Granted, she had nothing to worry about, because it – like her previous three albums – debuted at #1.

Alabama will reunite for more than a dozen concerts in 2012, band members Jeff Cook and Teddy Gentry confirmed. The first scheduled date takes place February 28th at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. "Alabama's agreed to do 15-20 shows next year, and possibly if that works out, we will do an overseas tour in 2013," Cook said. The three founding members are also planning to record a new album.

Baby Kennedy will have the honor of receiving big-sister Ella’s hand-me-downs, which Justin is pretty excited about, “Now having a girl, and having another little girl, I’m like, ‘Yes! No new clothes for a while! We can make these last a while now’.” Justin just wrapped up touring with Miranda Lambert and was home for the birth. He’ll take the next few weeks off to spend time with his family. He'll tour next year with Blake Shelton. Oh, and if you're wondering about the name, Justin said, “Faye was my grandmother’s name, who passed away a couple of years ago, so we thought it would be a great way to remember her. And, we both just liked Kennedy.”

Hey lover, oh lover yeah-yeah

Lover, lover lover, you dont treat me no good no more
