Jerrod Niemann's New Single "Lover, Lover"

To contact us Click HERE

A few weeks ago my roommate came home and told me about a new country song that she absolutely love and she introduced me to one of my new favorite country songs "Lover, Lover" by Jerrod Niemann. Jerrod Neimann has been releasing songs since 2006 but this was his first top 10 single. Not only does Jerrod Neimann sing he also writes songs for very famous country artist like Jamey Johnson, Neal McCoy, Julie Roberts and wrote Garth Brooks hit single "Good Ride Cowboy." Jerrod Niemann has such a great voice and this song has such a good rhythm and fun lyrics to sing along with I am not surprised at all that it is a top 10 hit. If you haven't heard it yet I highly suggest taking a few minutes to listen to it because I am sure you will love it too!

"Lover, Lover"
Well the truth, well it hurts to say
I'm gonna pack up my bags and I'm gonna go away
I'm gonna split, I can't stand it
I'm gonna give it up and quit and aint never coming back

Girl but before I get to going, I've got to say,
I know you used to love me but that was yesterday,
And the truth, I won't fight it,
When the love starts burning you got to do what's right.

Woh-oh lover, lover lover, you don't treat me no good no more,
Woh-oh lover, lover lover, you don't treat me no good no more,

Well the truth, yeah it hurts to say,
I'm gonna pack up my bags and I'm gonna go away,
I'm gonna split, I can't stand it,
I'm gonna give it up and quit, ain't never coming back

Girl but before I get to going, I've got to say,
There was a time, oh woman, when you used to shake it for me,
but now, all you do is just treat me cold,
Ain't gonna take it no more, gonna walk out the door,

Lover, lover lover, you don't treat me no good no more,
No good no more more more more
Lover, lover lover you don't treat me good no more,
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Well I'd wait up for you almost every night
and I'm hurting so bad cause you don't treat me right
Oh woman, oh woman you know I love you so
but you're so mean to me baby, I'm walking out the door,
Oh lover, oh lover, yeah-yeah

No good no more more more more

I know you used to love me in every way
but now im giving it up, and I'm tired of crying babe
I can't stand it no longer, it hurts me to say,
but I'm packing up my bags and going far away,
Hey lover, oh lover yeah-yeah

Lover, lover lover, you dont treat me no good no more
Lover, lover lover, you dont treat me no good no more

Tips For Visiting An Art Gallery

by Elinor Tran

Visiting an art gallery Delray Beach FL can be an enjoyable experience. It can be a good way to learn more about art and to view some interesting pieces. Equally you may find something you like and want to purchase it.

The problem is that some people can be intimidated by artistic venues, particularly if they are small and owned by one person. There is the fear that if they look around a smaller venue the owner will pressure them into buying something.

A lot of people start off by looking at pieces at the far end of a room and then look at individual artwork in a counter clockwise motion. A better way to navigate a room is to go to the middle and see if there are any particular pieces that you are interested in. This is best done when the room is quiet.

Different artistic venues will display different types of artwork. Some may focus purely on local art and new artists. Others may prefer older work, focus on different cultures or themes or in the case of some public venues you may be charged admission and you will be one of many people looking around at what is on display.

A good time to visit an artistic venue is when they first open or during an exhibition. There is often free food and drink and artists are often there to discuss their work. The atmosphere tends to be relaxed.

There are various directories where you can find an art gallery delray beach FL near you. Most of them will have websites giving you directions to find them. Furthermore their sites will usually have information on the art and artists within their venue helping you to find one that you will like.

How To Buy The Nicki Minaj Tickets

by Jimmy Pit

It has been confirmed that getting Nicki Minaj tickets to the concert is one of the most difficult tasks today. It is because she has an endless number of fans following her and so whenever there is a nicki minaj concert, people are already making a beeline for the tickets. You just have to have sources if you want to buy Nicki Minaj tickets.

As a matter of fact, when it comes to the Nicki Minaj tickets, having money pay for the tickets alone is not enough. The moment the concert is announced, almost half of the Nicki Minaj tickets are sold already. I know so many people who have not been able to get the Nicki Minaj tickets due to this.

The hard way to get the Nicki Minaj tickets to the concert is to be at the ticket selling venue hours after the announcement. Even then, you will notice fans making a beeline for the tickets already. This, I know will not be possible. Most probably, you will miss the official announcement and may hear it later by word of mouth.

Secondly, you may be out or at work when they announce it. So it is very difficult for you to be able to get the Nicki Minaj tickets this way. Your best bet is the internet. As soon as you hear the news, check the website that sells the Nicki Minaj tickets.

Some of the websites may not currently have the Nicki Minaj tickets. You must keep a very close eye on the updates to get the Nicki Minaj tickets. You can make it easier by signing up for membership. You may even be entitled to other membership benefits. You can even use these benefits to get the Nicki Minaj tickets for the concert.

Usually, these websites may sell for more than just one artist. in fact, they may be limited to just one area and will sell all the concert tickets happening in that area. So these types of membership tickets may even enable you to procure the Nicki Minaj tickets.

New Movie Releases For The Entire Family

by Goldie Booker

New movie releases San Antonio is featuring this summer are abundant and there is something for everyone. The line up includes action films, family flicks and dramas. Choose your favorite, find your nearest theater, buy some popcorn and enjoy.

Children and adults alike will love the new animated story 'Brave' (PG). It is the account of a spunky red-haired Scottish girl who makes some mistakes and tries to make them right, starting a whole chain of humorous and unexpected events. Bring the entire family for a rollicking time of action and comedy!

For adult sci-fi fare, consider 'Prometheus' (R), a futuristic thriller which includes aliens and androids and raises fictional questions as to how the earth really began. With its amazing special effects and exceptional acting, this action lineup will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

For 'Men in Black' and Will Smith fans, 'Men in Black 3 (PG-13) will not disappoint. Although somewhat predictable because of the former MIB films, the ongoing story is entertaining and fast-paced. Will Smith must utilize space travel to save Tommy Lee Jones and hopefully the action of this series continues to MIB4.

Especially for viewers who are tired of sequels and re-writes, 'Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' (R) may be just what you are looking for. A new, refreshing and out-of-the-box film, it presents the life of Lincoln in an entirely new, and fictional, light when Lincoln avenges the death of his mother by wreaking havoc on the vampire populations and attempting to run the country at the same time.

No matter what your taste, the theaters in this fair city will provide you, your friends and family with quality motion pictures which will entertain for months and years to come. How To See HD Iphone Movies

by Andrew Rufus

The iPhone has a major effect on how people live daily, which a phone was not able to do before. Proper knowledge is needed to take advantage of all that the iPhone has to offer. You can start becoming an expert on your phone by applying some of the tips and hints contained in this article.

It can be touchy to navigate small windows on websites. Sometimes, you wind up just scrolling across the main webpage. Zooming in close to the window might help you avoid this problem. Now, you can scroll with two fingers rather than one.

When you're browsing a website, it's best to try scrolling with both one finger and two fingers. Using one finger to scroll through a webpage provides an efficient way of getting through information stored in multiple boxes. Scrolling with two fingers will help you scroll through the whole page.

Use the camera located on the interior of the phone to capture stunning, realistic photographs. You can take a lot of pictures using your iPhone. All you have to do is download them to your computer when you get home and you can take an unlimited amount of pictures. If you own an iPhone, you do not have to waste money on purchasing a digital camera.

Use your iPhone to download yourself an app that enables you to upload any files you want onto your phone, this way you can use your iPhone as a file storage device. You can use your phone for many applications like image and video uploads, file uploads and music downloads. You can access files by connecting your phone directly to your computer, or you can view/listen to them on your phone.

Here is a trick to enhance your messaging. Sometimes, you will be provided an alternative word, as you can tap out of this to delete the suggestion. It is not necessary to actually touch the small "x" that is located next to the word.

On Safari, you can save images from Safari or Mail very easily if you know how to do it. Simply touch the picture and hold for a couple seconds. Then you'll receive a popup with a list of options. Of course, now it's just as easy as selecting "Save."

If you run out of time when typing up an email, hit cancel. You will be given the option of saving the email in draft form for future completion. Pick yes and later you can access the unfinished email from the draft folder.

There are a few different ways you can scroll through your contacts, but one way doesn't require flicking. Instead, try this: Place a finger on the alphabetized list. Now you can simply slide your finger up and down to peruse the list. You now have a way to sift through your list of contacts with a lot more control.

Do you frequently text a select handful of folks a lot? If so, their numbers can be added to your favorites. It might seem like a simple tip, but some people do not implement it. By doing so, you can save a lot of time with the people you call and text the most. Press the arrow right next to a contact's name and then choose text message. This is a good way to find out what the people whose calls you missed wanted to tell you.

Should a freeze occur with your iPhone, and it will not wake with a button push, a hard reset is probably needed. Press on the sleep button and the home button at the same time. This shuts the phone down and restarts it so your phone won't be frozen anymore.

If you're using all of the best shortcuts to move text around, you can really become an editing speed demon on your iPhone. You probably already know that double-tapping on a particular word will automatically select it. However, did you know this can be done to an entire paragraph? Tap four times to select the paragraph. This is much speedier than cutting and pasting.

Cut down the brightness of your display to save the battery. Go to the settings portion of your iPhone to alter the illumination level. Doing this means your battery will get drained slower, and this really helps for times you want to keep your phone charged for as long as you can.

People who see the iPhone for the first time are often surprised by everything it can do. Users who are new to the device may not even know the iPhone's true potential. This article will serve as a guide to inform those who are new to the world of the iPhone exactly what they can accomplish with this amazing device.

Tell me again how *conservatives* think poorly of people?

To contact us Click HERE
Some time ago, I first encountered the idea (put forth by my very liberal psychology professor, of course), that liberals believe in the basic goodness of mankind while conservatives believe in man's inherently sinful nature.  There's a run down of the concept here.  That link calls it a tragic vs. utopian viewpoint.

I was rather startled by it back in 2008, and it doesn't make any more sense now.  Though I know plenty of conservatives who think their pessimism makes them realists, I know at least an equal number of liberals who think folks need the government to take care of them.

Then comes this puffery about how Bloomberg wants to ban big sodas, which I swear to God is 90% attention whoring because his Mayors Against Illegal Guns idiocy wasn't churning up enough talk.  The idiocy is obvious to anyone with a glimmer of sense, of course, but it brings me back to my original point.

How can conservatives be said to have a dim view of human nature when we're not the ones who believe people need to be protected from themselves?

It's not just a soda ban.  It's banning junk food from being bought with food stamps (and while one version of this idea was put forth by a Republican, it seems to come from Democrats and liberal organizations such as the CSPI far more often).  It's banning trans-fats (another Bloomberg debacle), trying to ban toys in Happy Meals, browbeating candy companies into doing away with king size packages...The list goes on.  Hell, look at school vouchers.  We can't have parents deciding where to send their kids to school, now can we?

But conservatives are the ones who think people are bad.  Mmkay then.

Stupid driver tricks

To contact us Click HERE
Let me preface this by saying I am a conscientious driver, and since I'm mostly German I'm very law-abiding.  I recognize the speed limit is a hard upper, not a suggested lower.  I use my turn signals to change lanes and exit the freeway.  I stop for yellow lights unless I can't safely, and I never turn into the left turn lane and then sit there.  I'm not a perfect driver, by any means, but I do my best.

I swear to God, though, the drive to pick my husband up from work is going to be the death of me.

The bulk of the drive is along Thousand Oaks, from I-35 up to Bulverde Road.  From the time you turn under the freeway until a little bit past Wurzbach Parkway, the speed limit is 45 mph.  Then it drops to 35 mph.  Then, a little past Perrin Beitel/Nacogdoches, it goes back up to 45.

And the thing is, virtually no one does the speed limit on ANY part of that road.

There are two railroad crossings on Thousand Oaks just after you come under the freeway.  They're nice, smooth crossings, virtually level with the street.  There is no reason to slow down for these, but good Christ they seem to scare the shit out of people.

Again: speed limit is a hard upper.  However, this should not mean driving 20mph in a 45mph zone because the railroad crossing scares you.  Worse yet are the people, like the idiot in the Cavalier tonight, who do a respectable 35-40 mph until they're nearly on top of the tracks and then slam on their brakes.

Those are pretty rare though, 'cause like I said, most people are already doing about 25 mph.  And, of course, the lines are all solid, so I can't legally pass them.

You'll note "I don't cross solid white lines" wasn't on my list of stuff up there.  This stretch of road is why.

So I'll do the illegal lane change thing to get out from behind the guy doing 25mph and get stuck behind a guy going 35 mph.  Which is less aggravating.  And then I get to the stretch of road where the speed limit drops to 35, whereupon the guy in front of me speeds up to 40 or so, and the guy I passed comes whipping around me because I've actually slowed down like I'm supposed to.  (While it's not a residential area per se, there's a fair amount of pedestrian traffic.)

I don't actually care that I'm passed by someone whom I've passed, but I'll admit it baffles me.  If you're going to speed, speed.  If you're going to crawl along like my grandmother (she's dead; she moves slow), crawl along.  Just be consistent about it, for fuck's sake.

(At this point, do I really need to tell you that everyone slows back down when the speed limit goes back up?  Crazy shit, I tell you.)

I know this is going to sound like blaming the victim, and for that I'm sorry

However, when this happens:

On a clear summer night in 2010, Robert Mendoza was driving with his family on U.S. 90 near Zarzamora Street when he noticed traffic in front of him slow down and move to either side of the highway.
It might be best to get your ass over too, instead of  sitting there.

Strangely enough, I speak from personal experience.  On 7 May, this happened (I'm being lazy & doing a cut-and-paste from Facebook):

So, because I was so tired, I left home about an hour before Erik got off work, figuring I would just sit in the parking lot & read and wait on him. Because it was early, I decided to take the long way around, going up O'Connor and then dropping down the access road to Thousand Oaks. I had just turned onto the access road when I saw a pair of headlights in the distance. Since this is a one-way road, this was obviously worrying, but I thought maybe I was seeing things and started eyeballing the curb wondering if I could hop it if need be (note to self: next time, DO IT). About 15 seconds later, a car goes flying by me at highway speeds. o_0

Bitterly cursing my lack of a cell phone, I decided to stop at the next sign of life & ask someone to call 911. As I was approaching the next intersection, I saw a cop flip on its lights and haul ass out of the Chevron toward the other access road. I pulled up to the building and flagged down a Borg ambulance supervisor and explained what had happened and asked him to call 911. He told me the cop was indeed going after the wrong-way driver; saying that the guy was running from the officer.

Thank God, as I told the man, that I was in the right lane, not the left. I prayed (in between mental rounds of "Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck") that he was caught before hitting someone.
As if that's not bad enough, something pretty similar happened Monday.  My mother-in-law and I were headed back to her hotel room, which is between Perrin-Beitel and Starcrest, and just before we turned in, someone drove past us going the wrong way up the access road.  At a normal rate of speed this time, and in the middle of the day.  So, an early drunk, or just an idiot?  I don't know.

If you're keeping score, that's two up close and personal interactions with wrong way drivers in a month.  About, oh, six week ago (maybe a bit more), Erik and I were driving on I-10 near Probandt and saw an alert on Transguide that said WRONG WAY DRIVER ON FREEWAY.  Again, this was during the day.  So we exited at the next opportunity--and were the only people to do so.

The newspaper article linked up there called wrong way crashes a "hidden problem."  I'm not sure how hidden they can be anymore.

It's plain we need to be aware of, and prepared for, wrong way drivers.  Half my lifetime ago, my driver's ed teacher told me that if we were driving on the Interstate late at night, keep to the right lane.  I'm not sure if his reasoning--that drunk drivers make a conscious decision to stick to the slow lane because they know they're impaired--was accurate, but the advice was good.  Even if you're not on the freeway, stay out of the left lane.  It seems that "drive on the right" is deeply-ingrained behavior even with the drunkest of people, so adhere to that yourself.  Know more than one way to get where you're going, and if it's a dangerous time of night (the second article says after midnight, though for what it's worth neither of my encounters met this guideline) make sure you're not on a route without shoulders or some other way for you to get the fuck over if need be.  Keep aware of your surroundings, and take a clue from other drivers.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but what?

There is NO possible way this can go wrong

To contact us Click HERE
I don't usually serve up rumor mill stuff, 'cause I really hate it when I can't link to sources and be sure I'm accurate.  However, I recently had a conversation with a friend who is good friends with someone very highly placed in city admin (and yes, I know how friend-of-a-friend stuff goes, but it happens that I know the other fellow too, so I know the source is legit), and this whole thing got me really wound up so I'm going to go ahead and talk about it a little.  I'm fairly certain TPTB don't read my blog, so I shouldn't get anyone in trouble and at any rate I doubt it's secret, just in the early planning stages.

The talk is about revitalizing downtown.  This is a topic near and dear to my heart, 'cause I've spent a lot of time downtown over the years.  My mom used to work at Alamo News, if any of y'all remember that place.  (And if you do, you may have encountered a very young me hiding behind the comic book rack reading the merchandise.)  My church is downtown, and since I spent so many years riding Via, it necessitated quite a bit of time there too.  I love the place, and I'm glad to see some of the changes.  (Not all of them.  The palm trees along E. Houston are flat ridiculous, and don't get me started on the travesty that has been made of where the Antique Sampler Mall used to be.)

There were three things mentioned, one of them involving Hemisfair Park and another involving money we don't have, but I'm going to just share the most batshit insane one of them, and I will do so through the magic of a crappily-'shopped (GIMP'ed?) photo:

Yes, boys and girls, the idea is being floated of putting an Ikea in at Rivercenter mall, where Dillard's used to be.

I seriously cannot think of a worse place in the city for an Ikea.  For you out-of-towners, let me show you why this is crazy, courtesy Google:
The proposed site for Ikea is about a block away from the Alamo.  Of course what that tourist-choked area needs is a furniture store!

You will also note the virtual lack of parking.  The mall of course has a parking garage (a rather expensive one), but can you imagine carting your Henriksdal chair through the mall?  Even with the plan to move the poor people out of downtown by getting rid of the bus stops won't help much with traffic if people start parking where the Commerce & Alamo bus stop is now in order to load their crap.

Again, this seems to be in the very early stages, so one can hope someone smarter than the mayor and his staff will point out the stupidity of this move to him.  But I doubt he'd listen.  Mayor Castro gives every indication of hating San Antonio and wanting to change it into a city completely indistinguishable from any other major metropolitan area.  Add in the fact that our county commissioners seem to think the answer to SA's lack of young professionals is a fucking street car system, I have little hope for a sudden attack of intelligence.

What the...? I don't even...?

As though you needed an extra bit of WTF-ery to go with your "forcing you to buy something is a tax" BS today, I just saw this on FB and...well, I don't even get it:

Of course those few verses give almost no context, so I went to look at the whole chapter on BibleGateway.com.  So here's more:

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, now that Ehud was dead. So the Lord sold them into the hands of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. Sisera, the commander of his army, was based in Harosheth Haggoyim. Because he had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron and had cruelly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the Lord for help.

Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided. She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor. I will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands. ’”

Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”

“Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh. There Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali, and ten thousand men went up under his command. Deborah also went up with him.

Is agenda THAT important to these people?

Saturday in Portland, TX (close to Corpus Christi, apparently), two teenage girls were found shot in the head in a park; one of them died.

Here's the Corpus Christi Caller-Times article on it:
Homicide investigation in Portland: Two women shot, one survives

Now, this is a horrible thing.  Unless there's something really, really wrong with you, it's immediately obvious that this is a tragedy.  A very young woman (19-years-old) was murdered, and it seems that police don't have much to go on:

“We have no motive for the shooting at this time,” Wright said.

A resident who lives adjacent to the park told police they heard two loud bangs just before midnight Friday but thought they were firecrackers, Wright said.

Investigators believe at about that time the women walked with their assailant down a trail into knee-deep grass, where they were shot with a large caliber handgun, Wright said.

Evidence didn’t indicate whether the women were with a man, woman or more than one person, he said.

“It’s marshy down there, and the tall grass didn’t allow any identifiable footprints.”
But this is just not enough for some people.  They have to shove their own political agenda to the forefront.  Keep in mind the previous headline, and check out this one, from Jezebel:

Teenage Lesbian Couple Found in a Texas Park With Gunshot Wounds to the Head

Of course, anyone who has bothered to read this blog for more than, say, a week realizes I'm a huge supporter of the gay community.

But here's the thing.  There is currently zero indication the crime had ANYTHING to do with the sexuality of these girls.  The article admits as much, and in fact says

Meanwhile, friends of the couple can't understand why anyone would do this. Samantha Garrett, Olgin's roommate, said that the girls hadn't gotten any harassment about their relationship, and she couldn't think of any reason anyone would want to hurt them.
These women weren't gay rights activists.  I've heard no indication that Corpus is a particularly dangerous area for homosexuals, so while this could be a gay-bashing incident, it probably has a lot more to do with the targets being young college students with no good way to defend themselves.  Fuck Jezebel and their decision to reduce these girls to nothing more than what they liked to do with their genitals.  Last I checked, that was a supposedly feminist website, which makes the sexual objectification of a murder victim and a critically-wounded woman even more disgusting.

We are more than the sum of our parts.  We are far more than the kind of sex we like to have.

Yet more things which have no possible downside

While the country suffers under a President who hates America as it is and wants to remake it in the mold of Old Europe, we here in San Antonio are dealing with a mayor who hates the city as it is and is doing his damnedest to remake it in the mold of who-knows-what.  (I'm sure his upbringing had nothing to do with it.) Naturally, Julian (mind you don't Anglicize that) Castro is a rising star in the Democratic party, but that's neither here nor there.   Just consider my bitching about the mayor to be fair warning to the rest of you--he is, thank God, term-limited, and intends to inflict himself on the rest of you soon enough.

One of the ongoing crusades in this city are ever-failing efforts to revitalize the East Side.  If y'all were reading my blog back in '10 and the early part of '11 when I was lucky enough to live right off Hackberry, you know that part of town holds a piece of my heart, so I always pay attention to what's going on over there.

I'm certain this will prove just shocking, but by and large what little success there has been has come from people who live there, whether like me they grew up on that side of town or moved there because of a sincere desire to improve things.

The city's ideas?  Not so fruitful.  Witness the AT&T Center, which was gonna lead to all sorts of revitalization.

The latest city-backed idea is the construction of an Alamo Beer Company brewery on the near-East Side.

Now, let me make it clear, I don't have a problem with constructing a brewery per se.  I like good beer.  I miss Frio Brewing Co.'s beer.  I drink Shiner when I can, and I was happy to sample some of the house brew at Fredericksburg Brewing Company.

Here's the rub.  We have a drinking problem in this city.  We're a metro full of alcoholics.  We drink and then drive the wrong way on the freeway, and we're so sympathetic to our fellow drunks that we routinely give them probation after they murder someone with their car.

And yet, this:
Say Alamo Beer Co. gets its brewery. There is a microbrewery in the works at Pearl called The Granary. And, of course, there's Blue Star Brewing Co. down south.
Scott Metzger of Freetail Brewing Co., the brewpub at Northwest Military and Loop 1604, said he's not actively looking to open a downtown location, but wrote in an email, “if the right opportunity came along it would be something I'd heavily consider.”
It's not hard, then, to envision beer tours, the kinds of draws truly appealing to locals and tourists alike.
Because of course what we need in this city of rampant drunk driving is beer toursNothing at all can possibly go wrong with this.

Please believe me, I know and appreciate the intelligent adult viewpoint on this.  Responsible adults should not be punished for the actions of a reckless minority.  I am not saying that this brewery should not be built, or that others should not be built.

What I am saying is this: drunk driving is a cultural issue.  It's not something law enforcement can solve.  Given that, maybe, just maybe encouraging people to drive around half the city's interior on a drinking tour isn't the best idea in the world.

By all means, build the brewpubs.  Put a brewery and  attached restaurant in every single neighborhood you wish to gentrify.  Just don't encourage San Antonians to continue doing the stupid thing they're already doing too much of so we can become "a smaller version of Portland".  Because we're not Portland.  We're San Antonio, and we're in bad need of a citywide AA meeting.

Crochet Pattern--Leaf Barefoot Baby Sandals

I apologize for mixing my knotting hobby with my bitching hobby.  I can't get Tumblr to work right now (slow Internet at the moment) & I want to throw this pattern up for anyone interested.  Picture here; pattern after the break:
(Note that these are inspired by something similar on Pinterest; I have only seen the photo of those and have no real clue how they're made.  These don't look exactly the same, and they're not supposed to.  Barefoot sandals aren't a new idea, but making them for a baby/toddler is pretty unusual, so I did not want to copy them exactly.)

 Leaf Barefoot Baby Sandals

4.5 mm hook
small amount worsted weight yarn (sample uses Simply Soft)

special stitch: Elongated Dc (ElDc)-YO, insert hook in st indicated.  YO, draw through ONE loop on hook.  YO, draw through 2 loops on hook twice.

Leaf

ch 4, join into a ring

1) ch 1.  Sc twice.  Hdc twice.  Dc twice.  Ch 2.  Dc twice.  Hdc twice.  Sc twice.
2) ch 1, turn.  Sc in each sc, Hdc in each Hdc, Dc in each Dc.  Elongated Dc, ch 2, ElDc, all in ch 2 space.  Dc in each Dc, Hdc in each Hdc, Sc in each Sc.
3) ch 1, turn.  Sc in each Sc, Hdc in each Hdc, Dc in each Dc.  ElDc in ElDc.  ElDc twice, ch 3,ElDc twice in ch 2 sp.  ElDc in next ElDc.  Dc in each Dc, Hdc in each Hdc, Sc in each Sc.
4) Ch 26.  Sl in 2nd ch from hook and next 24 chs. Working across sides of rows (bottom of sandal), slst in each row across to other side.  Ch 26.  Sl st in 2nd st from hook & next 24 sts.

Finish off.

Flower

ch 4, join into ring, leaving a long tail to sew with.

1) Sc 8 times in ring
2) Sl st in first st.  Ch 3.  Skip next st, slst in following st, ch 3 around.  (4 ch 3 spaces)
3) Ch 1. In each ch 3 space: Sc, Hdc, Dc, Hdc, Sc.  After finishing fourth petal, slst to first Sc.  Finish off.

Sew flower to leaf top, using long yarn tail.

I made these to fit Marie, who is 19 months and has big feet.  There are several ways to make them smaller if desired: leave off row 3 of the leaf portion, or use sport weight yarn & a 4.25mm or 4mm hook.  Or just let them be a bit bigger on a smaller baby.

I used the elongated DC (which you may know as a herringbone DC) instead of a treble crochet for two reasons: one, it is faster, for me anyway, & two, it created a bit of a gap in the leaf which I found unattractive.  If you prefer, you can use treble crochet instead, or simply use additional DCs.

Another way to finish these would be to finish off the leaf after row 3 and thread a narrow ribbon along the bottom portion of the leaf (the flat side) and use that as a tie.

If you'd rather a 5- or 6-petal flower, start out with 10 or 12 sc in the ring.  If you do, you might want to start with a 5-chain ring.

I was skimming Legal Insurrection tonight and came across this post on what's apparently a faked hate crime (sadly not uncommon--didn't we see a fair amount of that last Presidential election?)

Because I am easily distracted, this caught my eye:
Please note the underlined.

One thing I learned in my Groton days is that Hartford's paper is the Courant.  Jacobson seems to have translated the paper's name.  I didn't check Instapundit, so perhaps this error was replicated from there, but when you're inserting a Courant.com link into your blog post, maybe that should be a clue.

Anyway, as I usually do when I encounter this sort of error, I went immediately to the comments section to see how long it took someone to correct him.  This is the Internet; we love to prove people wrong!

Well...

Twenty-six comments, and no one pointed out the blazingly obviously error (which hints to me that no one bothered to click through and read the linked article).  I was shocked.

Then again, given that this is the general tenor of the comments on the post, perhaps I should not be surprised:

Teaching evolutionary principles promotes low self-esteem, which engenders self-hate crimes.
Unfortunately, the natural order is the defining order and not an article of faith as is evolution, God, etc.
That said, it’s interesting to consider that several thousand years ago, God’s order was recorded, and we have since confirmed that it is compatible with the natural order. Perhaps Darwin was not the first human being to recognize evolutionary principles in practice.
The stupid is strong in that one, eh?

Western Wednesday with Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash was an American singer-songwriter, actor, and author, who has been called one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Although he is primarily remembered as a country music icon, his songs and sound spanned many other genres including rockabilly and rock and roll—especially early in his career—as well as blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal led to Cash being inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Gospel Music Hall of Fame. "I Walk the Line" is a song written by Johnny Cash and recorded in 1956. After three attempts with moderate chart ratings, "I Walk the Line" became the first number one Billboard hit for Cash. The single remained on the record charts for over 43 weeks, and sold over 2 million copies. (Source)
